Daran hängen Erinnerungen.

Jetzt darf ich auch nochmal zitieren (bzw. verlinken): “Sweet Disposition”. Mehr oder weniger so klingt das gesamte Album.

Das ist eigentlich gar nicht so schlecht. Es fällt einem auch gar nicht mal so sehr auf, wenn man nicht darauf achtet. Trotzdem – “Conditions” ist ein einziger breiter Klangteppich aus Schlagzeug, Synthesizern und ganz viel Schrammel-Gefühl. Eingängige Melodien gibt es zwar weniger, dafür eine schön abgemischtes, fließendes Werk, das man wenigstens ein paar Mal hören muss, bis man es wieder mit gutem Gewissen beiseite legen kann.

Wer also auf ein bisschen undefinierte Klänge, sehr, sehr hohen Gesang und ein wenig 80er steht, der sollte sich “Conditions” auf jeden Fall mal anhören. Ansonsten hat man zwar kein Meisterwerk verpasst – aber ein Stück gute Musik.

Und das Beste ist: Es stimmt sogar. :-)

So kann man sich täuschen! Heute stieß ich zufällig auf eine Live-Aufnahme eines Auftritts in Kalifornien. Und nachdem ich mir Teile davon angehört habe, revidiere ich meine Meinung: Es ist vielleicht nicht der heilige Gral des Synthpop, aber irgendwie doch ganz gut! Die angeblich so präsente Parallele zu The Postal Service und Death Cab For Cutie sehe ich zwar nicht (nichts geht über Death Cab For Cutie!), aber wie gesagt: Hörbar allemal.

Empire Of The Sun kommen aus Australien und setzen sich zusammen aus Luke Steele und Nick Littlemore. Ihr (rein optischer) Stil erinnert sehr an … nun ja, avantgardistische Sigfried und Roy-Adaptionen? Wie auch immer, man muss sie sich ja nicht ansehen. Vielmehr machen die beiden alternative Electronic-Musik. Und wie immer schrecken erst einmal alle zurück, wenn ich Electronic sage, hier bedeutet es aber tatsächlich nur, dass sie viele Synthesizer-Elemente verwenden (so bezeichnet man ihr Genre oft auch als “Synthpop”, der Ausdruck gefällt mir aber schlicht nicht).

Die Zukunft des Pop – so futuristisch schon das Alben-Cover aussieht, so gestaltet sich auch dessen Inhalt. Wieder sehr sphärisch, sehr flächendeckend aber auch mit sehr treibenden Beats unterlegt präsentieren sich die zehn Titel. Und interessanterweise gibt es für mich nur einen Totalausfall auf dem Album.

Insgesamt jedoch ein sehr, sehr, sehr empfehlenswertes Werk, von dem man zumindest Teile gehört haben sollte (dazu siehe auch die Hörbeispiele).
